Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery

Traditional glaucoma surgery used to be the only treatment for patients who have failed eye drops and laser surgery for glaucoma. These surgeries are very effective but have significant risks, including vision loss. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques, devices and stents have been developed to allow for safer surgical treatments that can be used earlier in the disease. Ideally, your glaucoma will be controlled while it is mild so that you will never need traditional glaucoma surgery.

One of the main advantages of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery is that it can be combined with cataract surgery, adding at times less than 5 minutes to the surgery. This allows for a decrease in the dependence on eye drops and need for other treatments. Dr. Catoira-Boyle is experienced in all stents and devices and will recommend the one that is best for you.
