Meet Dr. Yara

Meet Dr. Yara Catoira-Boyle, MD

Dr. Catoira-Boyle moved to Indianapolis in 1998, when she started her Ophthalmology Residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she completed training at the top of her class. Upon completing a Glaucoma specialization at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, in 2003 Dr. Catoira-Boyle joined the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology at IU as an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Roudebush VA Eye Section as their only glaucoma specialist providing specialized cataract and glaucoma surgery to Indianapolis Veterans.

In 2006, Dr. Catoira-Boyle married Arthur Sullivan Boyle, or AJ Boyle, who was born and raised in Indianapolis. She then set her permanent roots in Indianapolis, as they moved to a house just two blocks away from where AJ grew up, in the heart of Indianapolis. Dr. Catoira-Boyle and her husband are raising their two children in Indianapolis.

Dr. Catoira-Boyle’s career brought her to the position of Chief of Ophthalmology at the Roudebush VA Medical Center from 2016 to 2019. She is currently an adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the IU Department of Ophthalmology. She has been teaching residents to perform cataract and glaucoma surgery since 2003.

Dr. Catoira-Boyle is serving her second term as president of the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Program class of 2015. She is recognized in the state and nationally for her personable and excellent patient care as well as surgical abilities and research presentations.

In her spare time, Dr. Catoira-Boyle enjoys family time such as travelling, backyard cook outs, and ping pong, as well as non-competitive golf with her husband.

Dr. Catoira-Boyle has made her final career step towards private practice, where she finds the most rewarding part of her career: being in the room close-up with a patient, helping others preserve and improve their vision through prevention, medications, laser and incision surgery.
